As you and your athlete are heading down the recruiting journey, there will be moments that reflection may be required to ensure the athlete is on the right path. You may find your athlete's profile is not getting the right amount of activity or that coaches are not responding to promotions or letters of interest. There may be several factors that lead to these types of results, and it usually has to do with the following:

  • Your athlete is not targeting the right level of play

  • Your athlete is not targeting the right schools

  • The athletes' coach is not involved in the promotion process

  • The recruiting calendar is impacting your journey

So how do you get back on track? Start by evaluating the issues above and begin your research by addressing each issue by asking your athlete and coach what the plan is and getting on the same page.

  1. Review other athletes' footage and performance for the levels you are targeting, if they seem different than your athletes, it is likely you are targeting the wrong level.

  2. Look at the school's level and academic requirements to see if they align with your athlete adequately.

  3. Have a discussion with the athletes' coach regarding the athletes' level and their involvement with promoting the athlete to the right schools.

  4. Lastly, if you are targeting DI and DII schools, understand what the recruiting calendar looks like. If your athlete is a senior and you are struggling to get any action, it could be that the rosters are already filled up. It could also be that you are in a no-talk period and communication from coaches is not allowed. If it's late in the recruiting year, you may need to target other schools and focus potentially on a future transfer.
